Our History

Early Happenings:

  • April 2000: Ascension Lutheran Church of Sarasota purchases ten acres of land on Lorraine Road in east Manatee County
     
  • March 2001: Pastor Daniel Witte accepts God’s call to be Risen Savior’s future pastor
     
  • July 29, 2001: Families from Ascension Lutheran, Sarasota and Peace Lutheran, Bradenton meet to choose a name for our new church: Risen Savior Lutheran
     
  • August, 2001: Pastor Witte begins door-to-door surveying of over 1,000 homes in east Manatee County
     
  • January 2002:  Pastor Witte and over a dozen volunteers begin telephone surveying of over 9,000 homes in East Manatee County
  • March 17, 2002 Risen Savior holds its first public service in the cafeteria of Tara Elementary School.  Attendance is 71. All glory to our Risen Savior!
 
 




 

Recent Events:

  • March 27, 2005: after enjoying breakfast together at Tara Elementary, Risen Savior has its highest attendance to date, for Easter: 110
     
  • June 1, 2006: Risen Savior receives permission from the mission board overseeing the church to hire an architect
     
  • summer 2006: Risen Savior hires The Lawson Group as architect for our building project
     
  • January 7, 2007: Risen Savior begins holding services at McNeal Elementary
  • January 18, 2008: Risen Savior closes on a land swap of ten acres with Schroeder-Manatee Ranch
  • February 18, 2008: Risen Savior hires Lynn Townsend and Associates as engineers for our new building project
  • October 15, 2008: Risen Savior hires Tom Wessel Construction as general contractor for our new building project
  • November 9, 2008: Risen Savior breaks ground on our new building


This is the furrow everyone created when we all broke ground that day, by pulling together on an antique plowshare.





(We broke ground on November 9, 2008 and first occupied November 13, 2009.) 
 
  • January 24, 2010: We dedicated our building to the glory of God.
